Summary:

The planet Alanaterra is a warm swampy world orbiting a K-class star.  The early settlers were a cult that worshiped snakes and considered them sacred, bringing them from Earth as pets.  Without any predators on the new world the snake population grew rapidly.  Today the entire planet is infested with snakes, and large parts of the population continue to worship them.  The snakes have become part of the planets culture as they are considered sacred by many, and used as entertainment by others.
